UNC Mental Health Specialists is the faculty practice for the UNC Department of Psychiatry. Our highly trained specialists are expert in a broad range of psychiatric disorders and provide the best evidence based treatment and care available for children, adolescents, and adults. Because UNC Psychiatry is a world leader in basic and clinical research, our faculty members are constantly exchanging information about the most current discoveries in their respective fields from "bench to bedside." Furthermore, in their role as teachers and supervisors to the Department's large residency program, our faculty specialists constantly hone their clinical expertise across the spectrum of psychiatric disorders.
UNC Mental Health Specialists provides care in two conveniently located community clinics. The practices are staffed by full-time psychiatrists and psychologists specializing in a wide range of disorders, including women’s reproductive mood disorders such as PMS, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), postpartum depression, depression during pregnancy, pregnancy-related psychosis, and depression following pregnancy loss. Other specialty services include treatment for eating disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, developmental disorders, tic disorders, and child and adolescent psychological and psychiatric services, including psychological testing. We are also one of a very few clinics in North Carolina to offer TMS - transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy - a promising new treatment for a variety of depressive disorders that have failed to respond to antidepressant medications.
Shirley Morter, the UNC Mental Health Specialists' Administrative Director, is always happy to advise clients about practice policies and screening referrals. She may be contacted via email at email@example.com or by phone at (919) 929-7449.
